I missed my deadline. I did not plan for this. How did I allow for this to happen? I am pretty obsessed with reading and researching online. But something happened this month. Yes, I know it is Birthday month. But this was different. I was overwhelmed. See, I created unreasonable deadlines for my goals this month. I know better being that I coach women daily on goal achieving.

Life is real. It's so easy to take on too much. There is a sense of urgency. Suppose you listen to people online and on the news.

You may start believing that you are dying and need to hurry up and make your first million like all the intelligent millionaires online. And of course, your life will be significant because of this right. Nope, I don't think so.

Here are 3 Lessons I learned from missing my deadline.

  1. Stack your Goals
  2. Set reasonable timelines
  3. Don't take on too much

Working on new goals while finishing another goal is a good use of my time. Some call it stacking or gathering similar plans that are a part of a bigger goal.

Ex. Creating content while episodes are being edited or downloaded. Complete episode notes and transcripts on the same day. Doing this helps me to work smarter in a straightforward process.

My timelines must be reasonable. When I am overwhelmed, I can sometimes put extra pressure on myself by creating stringent timelines. To stay focused, I must give myself enough time to complete tasks. Planning time wisely is vital. I remind myself to say No often.

Ex. 15 mins before my coaching sessions, I take 10 mins to center myself.

I affirm my truth in this time before meetings. I am grateful for opportunities to Coach goal getters. Another way I am creating reasonable timelines for myself is by scheduling times on my calendar. I am honoring my working meeting times to record and edit the 90 Day Wins Podcast weekly.

I remind myself daily my goal is to be productive, not busy. I don't need to overwhelm myself by taking on too much. Taking on too much at once can cause stress and make me lose focus. I'm learning I do better when I set clear boundaries and don't over-commit. This month I was overwhelmed with meetings and conference calls: seminars and online challenges. I was overbooked and over-committed. I sent emails and did not attend events that did not align with my goals for the week. I rescheduled and made changes where I could. And you know what else I did. I gave myself some grace. I journaled about why I felt overwhelmed and got to the problem by asking myself the tough questions. It is essential to understand how I feel when I get overwhelmed. Then I am in control and able to take action. Being accountable to myself allows for me to get back on track and focusing on my Wins.

Missing my deadline reminded me to manage my time wisely. And revisit the times I shared in this week's blog on time management.

Leogang - Snickers

Maybe some of the blame for me missing my deadline belongs to the Leo Gang. I need at least 10mins a day to play with them. They are so cute. They are getting bigger, starting to nibble on everything and bark at everything. Leo gang and I run around the back porch. I give them multiple belly rubs. They nip at my hands and feet. I have learned to wear closed-toe shoes when ready to play with them. Now they have started biting at my shoelaces. It's the little things. For sure, they will let me play with them all day if I am not careful. Even the doggies have a timeline. We all got goals. I think their goal is to get out and explore the world with the bigger dogs. Not today, doggies. But very soon.

Enjoy these cute videos for National Dog Day.
